Ben just before surgeryBen had a 5 hour surgery, that included the doctor making a full cut across his upper jaw above the teeth, removing bone and moving the jaw up and back, two side cuts to his lower jaw to rotate it forward, and a chin cut to fit the profile. The doctor said it was technically challenging (I’ll say! Working around in a mouth with all those arteries and nerves and everything to be careful of!) and placing and removing a little more bone and replacing to get it right took time! Of course Ben was out for all of it and just woke up with a mouth full of pain.
Since then it has been over a week now of good steady recovery, getting out of the hospital (one night stay), teeth sheethed in plastic to hold them, along wtih rubber bands (not wired shut, so that’s good). He is still on regular pain medications and antibiotics and has to keep his lips moistened since he can’t yet close his mouth with all that stuff inside. Rough ride, but he has a great attitude, looking to the future!
Thanks so much for praying for him – we are so glad it has all gone well.
