I went to see Noah #NoahMovie this past weekend. Darren Aronofsky takes artistic license to the Bible story, and may be including non-biblical traditions, but still comes away with the triumph of mercy over justice, Noah realizing the wonder of re-starting the world, and God’s promise, the rainbow, not to flood the world again. Most of the departures from scripture created tension in the plot to keep the movie going and delved into the emotions of Noah and his family. Odd moments of looking into the future and seeing more modern images in places. Noah goes kung fu and fights off the hords to save his family. A key scene seems to reflect Noah as Abraham sacrificing Isaac. Even though the end includes the scene of Noah’s drunkenness (that’s in the Bible) the director uses that to bridge to reconciliation, just in time for the rainbow to come out, verifying God’s good purposes. Quite interesting and enjoyable as story – it should make us all go back and check our Bibles. Was that in there?
